Frequency

With frequency targeting, you can limit impressions and clicks for each unique user at the campaign or banner level.

For example, don't show the banner more than twice a day or pause impressions if the user has already clicked on the link on the banner.

To set up targeting, go to Targeting → Add a targeting condition → Frequency.

Maximum frequency impressions

To the user for the entire duration of the campaign

Maximum number of campaign banner impressions per unique user during the campaign, provided the click limit set in the To the user for the entire duration of the campaign parameter wasn't reached.

Limit impressions for a period

Period during which impression limits apply to a user. If the available options don't meet your needs, select Specify your period and enter a custom time interval in the Your period field.

To the user for the selected period

Impression limit for the specified period.

Minimum period between by impressions

Interval between banner impressions for a user.

Maximum frequency transitions

To the user for the entire duration of the campaign

Total number of clicks each unique user can make during the campaign.

Limit transitions for a period

Period during which the click limits apply to a user. If the available options don't meet your needs, select Specify your period and enter a custom time interval in the Your period field.

To the user for the selected period

Limit on clicks for the specified period.

Minimum period between transitions

Time before the banner can reappear after a user click.

Setup example

The site has three sections. At the campaign level, the To the user for the entire duration of the campaign field limits impressions to 10, and the To the user for the entire duration of the campaign field limits clicks from each user to 6.

Frequency targeting for the site wasn't customized.

For section 1: Impressions — 5, clicks — 3.

For section 2: Impressions — 5, clicks — 3.

For section 3: Not customized.

With these settings, sections 1 and 2 can generate a total of 20 impressions and 12 clicks, based on their custom limits. The third section inherits the campaign limits (a maximum of 10 impressions and 6 clicks).
