Frequently asked questions about labeling

Below are answers to frequently asked questions that may arise when labeling ads in Adfox.

You can find answers to general questions about amendments to the law “On Advertising” and the Yandex advertising data operator (ADO) on the Yandex ADO's website.

Creating counterparties and contracts

Can I disable the assistant's access to creating counterparties and contracts on the Marking tab?

Yes, you can. To do this, go to Users → Assistants → Parameters and enable the Marking. Deny manage contracts and contractors option.

Do the participants of the advertising chain need to obtain mutual consent to submit each other's data to the state register (ERIR, Unified Register of Online Advertising)? Should the consent be signed electronically or on paper?

Publishers need to get consent from their partners to submit their data. Discuss the format and type of such consent with your legal department or an external law consultant.

The details of which contract do I need to specify if there is a long chain of intermediaries (for example, 2–3 agencies) between the advertiser (client) and the contractor (site)?

To launch a campaign, be sure to enter information about the primary contract.

If you plan to submit ad register reports in the Adfox interface, you also need to specify information about the final contract. You can do it at any time: before, during, or after running the campaign.

I need to enter the details of the advertiser's primary contract with the agency. Which role do I select for the counterparty agency: “Provider” or “Customer and provider”?

For an advertising agency, select the Customer and provider role.

How do I determine the contract type: an intermediary contract or ad distribution contract?

To determine the type of relationship under a specific contract, contact your lawyers.

How is the contract number assigned? Do I need to specify the details of a real advertising contract or can I add a fictitious number?

When creating a contract in Adfox, be sure to use the numbers of actually existing contracts.

I have multiple sites grouped under one placement (site) in Adfox. Do I need to split sites in Adfox when transmitting data about the site owners?

In the site parameters in Adfox, you must specify the actual owner of the site, the site's domain and its type. If you place campaigns or banners for different sites on the same placement (site), you must split them by owners: one site — one owner.

How do I unlink a contract from my ad campaign?

To unlink a contract from an ad campaign, select Do not submit data to state register in the Marking procedure field in the campaign parameters.

I haven't signed a contract yet (or I haven't got data about the primary contract from the chain participants). Can I create an ad campaign and label it without creating any contract or counterparties?

You can create a campaign without labeling it. You can only get a token and launch a labeled campaign after you add your counterparties and contract in Adfox and enable the Submit data to state register option.

Labeling campaigns and banners

Can I disable the assistant's access to labeling campaigns and banners?

No, the campaign and banner labeling settings are available to all assistants by default. You can't disable an assistant's visibility or deny them access to the settings.

I use both a supercampaign and flights. Will my flights inherit the labeling settings of my supercampaign?

No, you need to enable labeling manually for each flight. Labeling is disabled by default in the flight settings even if it's enabled in your supercampaign.

When adding a banner to the “Text data” field, do I need to enter the entire text of my creative? Or can I skip this field?

If labeling is enabled in the banner parameters, you need to fill out one of these fields:

  • Creative text data: Text shown in the banner.
  • Creative file link: Link to an image, HTML file, or video.
How do I specify the ad creative data for an HTML banner?

You can submit ad creative data to the state register automatically, including the data for the HTML code field. To learn more, see Submit creative data to state register automatically.

How do I use macros to fill out ad creative data?

In all predefined templates, ad creative parameters are automatically submitted to the state register (provided ad labeling has been enabled for this banner). When adding banners with this template, you'll see the  icon next to the field for your creative. In this case, you don't have to fill in the fields in the Media data of the creative section.

For custom templates, you need to set up automatic creative data sending yourself. To learn how to do this, see Submit creative data to the state register automatically.

What do I specify in the “Target URL” field, and how is it different from the “Click-through URL” field?

In the Target URL field, specify the URL of the landing page on the advertiser's site.

In the Transition URL field, enter the link required for the banner: this can be a link to the advertiser's site (as in the Target URL field) or a click link from a third-party system (Adriver or Weborama).

How do I only enable labeling for one banner if my ad campaign includes multiple banners?

Enable labeling and enter the contract at the campaign (flight) creation step. When adding the labeled banner, enable the Submit data to state register option. For all the other banners, select Do not submit data to state register.

Why can't I see a section with labeling setup in the banner parameters?

For the section with the labeling settings to appear in the banner parameters, enable labeling in the parameters of your campaign (flight).

I copied a banner with active labeling. Why is labeling disabled for the copy?

Labeling is disabled for banner copies by default. If you need to enable labeling, you can do it manually.

Can I place ads without issuing a token in Adfox?

Yes, Adfox enables you to place ads without tokens (for example, when running test campaigns).

Labeling YAN units and other ad formats

Do I need to label my own promo campaigns (self-promotion)?

If your ads are subject to labeling according to the law “On Advertising”, you must submit the ad data to the state register (even if you don't earn money from these ads). To learn how to transfer information about advertising your own products, see Labeling self-promotion.

Adfox generates monthly invoices with self-promotion statistics. To submit an invoice of this kind, open it and click Submit.

You don't have to label ads of your products or services if the ads are distributed by advertisers, ad distributors, and ad system operators that send ad materials to specific email addresses or mailing lists.

Do I need to label non-standard placement formats like promos, special projects, advertising articles, and publications?

Please note that only ads that are placed online are subject to labeling. To learn whether your placement format is an ad or not, consult your lawyers or seek clarification from the regulatory authority (Roskomnadzor).

How do I label advertising articles?

You can label an advertising article in Adfox. To do this, register the creative in Adfox and add the ad labeling data to the article. To learn more, see Labeling ads without Adfox impressions.

How do I get tokens for Telegram channel or blogger advertising?

You can register the creative and get a token for your ad via Adfox. To learn more, see Labeling ads without Adfox impressions.

I use Adfox to place the Yandex Advertising Network ad units in Zen (using both direct campaigns and YAN). Do I need to submit data to the state register?

For your direct sales advertised through Adfox, you must enable data transfer to the state register. For ad units placed in the Yandex Advertising Network, you don't need to transmit anything else: Yandex will do it for you.

Getting a token

What is a token and what do I need it for?

A token is a unique ID of an ad, like a banner or video, that contains information about the end advertiser. The advertising data operator issues a token for each creative. All the ad-related data is assigned to the token. The token issued by the Yandex advertising data operator is added to the click link when the banner is served. Tokens issued by other advertising data operators may be placed on ads differently.

Is the token automatically assigned to an ad creative when I create my ad campaign?

If labeling via the Yandex advertising data operator (ADO) is enabled in the banner settings (using the Submit data to state register option), the Yandex ADO receives the data about the ad creative and generates a token when you save your banner in Adfox. The token is assigned to the banner automatically.

How much time does it take to assign a token?

The token is assigned when the banner is saved.

How can I make sure that the token issued by the Yandex ADO has been assigned to my banner?

If you launch an ad campaign and add a banner through Adfox with the Submit data to state register option enabled, the token is issued and added to the click link automatically. No need to do anything else: the token is assigned and added to the banner by default.

I've enabled labeling and saved my banner, but haven't seen any messages saying that the token is assigned to it. Is there any indicator to show this?

We are currently revising the Adfox interface to reflect assignment of the token. Follow our updates.

How do I look up the token assigned to a banner in the Adfox interface?

You can only look up the token after you save the banner. To do this, open the parameters of the banner you saved and find the token under Advertising labeling.

Do I need to issue a new token after the reporting period is closed, if my banner impressions continue in the same ad campaign?

No, you don't have to do that.

Placing a token in a banner

Is the token displayed in the banner (ad creative)?

The token won't be shown on the banner, but you can copy it from the advertising menu (if enabled). To learn more, see Ad label and banner menu in Adfox banners.

Do I need to add the token from the Adfox account to the click link separately?

You don't have to do this. The token is assigned to the banner automatically if submitting the data to the state register is enabled.

Why can't I see the token in the click link?

When a banner includes a token (you enabled labeling or provided a third-party token), it is appended to the click link's erid parameter.

How do I add a token to non-clickable banners?

To add a token to a non-clickable banner, enable the Show banner menu option in the banner settings. When the banner is served, the  menu icon will be displayed in its upper-right corner. When a user clicks this icon, the advertiser's details and a token link appear (if ad labeling is enabled for the banner or a third-party token is specified).

Example of displaying the banner menu containing a token

To learn more, see Ad label and banner menu in Adfox banners.

I received a token from a third-party advertising data operator. How do I add it to my banner parameters in Adfox?
  1. Go to the banner settings.
  2. In the Marking procedure field, select Do not submit data to state register.
  3. In the Advertising label settings subsection, enable the Show banner menu option and paste the token value your received from the third-party advertising data operator into the Third-party token field. The third-party token will be shown in the ad menu.
I need to add the banner token from Adfox to the click-through URL. Can I use the &erid=token parameter for this?

We recommend that you only add the token to the ad menu. To learn more, see Ad label and banner menu in Adfox banners.

Ad label and advertiser info

Is it mandatory to specify the end customer in an ad?

The Federal Law “On Advertising” requires that you specify the advertiser in your ad or provide a link to a resource where users can get information about the advertiser.

Will the ad label be displayed if submitting data to the state register is disabled in the ad campaign settings?

Yes, you can enable displaying the label even for the banners with the Do not submit data to state register option selected in the labeling settings.

Where and how exactly will the ad label be positioned in the banner? I want to account for this label in my ad creative.

If the ad label is enabled in the banner settings, the label is rendered in the upper-left corner. The size of the Ad label is 54 × 12 px with 4 px margins on the top and left. If a link to the advertiser's site is specified in the Domain field in the banner settings, the width of the link will be added to the label width.

I don't see a section with the ad label settings in the banner parameters. What do I do?

Open the banner template parameters:

  1. Go to Settings → Banner types.
  2. Find the banner type you need and open the Templates templates added for it.
  3. Click the Settings icon next to the template you need.

In the template parameters, enable Add an Ad label setting. A section with the label settings should then appear in the banner parameters.

If you enabled the option in the template parameters but the section with the Ad label setting didn't appear, write to Adfox support.

Submitting reports

What reports can I submit via Adfox?

You can only submit invoices for campaigns for which ad creatives were registered in Adfox during setup.

What reports can I submit through the Yandex advertising data operator (ADO)?

With the Yandex advertising data operator API, you can label any advertising materials.

If you label creative content using the Yandex advertising data operator API and launch campaigns with it in Adfox, be sure to only submit reports through the Yandex advertising data operator API.

How do I submit reports for a token received from a third-party ADO?

Invoices, impression statistics, and placement information should be submitted to the advertising data operator the third-party token was received from and the creative content was registered with. You can't submit reports for third-party tokens using Adfox or your Yandex ADO account.

How do I submit a revenue invoice for another participant of the advertising chain who hasn't registered any ad creatives?

You can submit a revenue invoice for another advertising chain participant (provided that this participant hasn't registered any ad creatives and hasn't received any tokens) to any ADO or the Yandex ADO account. In addition to the revenue invoice issued by this participant, you also need to specify the details of the primary contract.

You can't submit the invoice in the Adfox interface.

Can the amount in the invoice differ from the total amount for my campaigns when I submit labeling reports using the Adfox interface?

The amount in the invoice can be greater than the total amount for Adfox campaigns if the publisher provided other services under their contract.

Impression statistics

What impression data is sent to the state register: the data from the widget at the banner list level or from reports?

The impression data from Adfox statistics reports is sent to the state register.

Do you send intermediate statistics to the state register?

No, we don't send intermediate statistics to the state register.
